So, went out for a drive yesterday afternoon (1h15). I was very pleased to find that I’d not lost the little I learnt with my granddad at 17/18 – not kangaroo hopping around too much, and able to change gears without much trouble. I got a little nervous with another car behind me, and couldn’t start the car at a junction because of that, but hey. I’m not giving it enough accelerator when the clutch engages, but any more just sounds too much….

I went out today as well (1h30), and that wasn’t so good at first – I was jumping the car a lot more than I had been, and that kind of thing. Eventually got the hang of it, and more of the up/down play on the clutch/accelerator. I did a few 3-point turns (and one ended up being 4-point) and struggled not to stall on at least one of the starts.

We have a car for me to drive! A nice little x-reg VW Lupo, 1.0L, in a mid blue, and I love it. I’ve sorted insurance (£590 from the post office, for my mum (in her name) me, and my sister (both of us are new learners) and I’ll be driving it around industrial estates for the next little while, getting to grips with the basics. After that I’ll start having a few lessons, and book my test and that, and I’ll aim to learn by Christmas at the latest. I’ll be putting regular updates about learning on here, but I’ll try and find a way of collapsing posts by category so you don’t have to read every. little. detail.
